How do I update my jailboken iphone 3G from 3.1.2?

I don't wanna lose anything and i heard u can lose ur 3g service and/or txt messaging. It's a iphone 3g with 3.1.2 with the fw faker 3.1.3 installed. and would every Cydia app have to be reinstalled?
