What's wrong with writing about werewolves?

I understand the exasperation that people have with vampires, but I don't think werewolves have been used as much as vampires by a long shot. So why are people disparaging new authors from writing about werewolves? By the time they publish their work, won't the vampire and werewolf craze be over anyway? So what is it about werewolves that people don't want to read? If a new writer came along with a unique story that centered on werewolves, would people still read it?
