Slow period in San Francisco Bay Area?

I don't think it's limited to the US. Australian performing arts industry always tends to slow down over the December/Jan period, as people tend not to visit the theatre so much during the holidays. More people are likely to be spending time at home with their families or travelling. I've noticed this trend over the last five or six years... And of course, the recent financial crises isn't helping matters.
